Celje reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League last season and have been generally strong again this time around, albeit they are still reeling from the departure of manager Albert Riera to Eintracht Frankfurt.
They now face an AEK Athens side that were very strong in the league phase. The Greek giants edged past AEL Limassol by a goal to nil the other day in the Super League, extending their unbeaten run of form to seven matches across all competitions.
Celje have succumbed to back-to-back domestic defeats of this one and they are declining after stumbling past Drita Gjilan in the knockout playoffs, with AEK the team to be sided with.
