Casper Ruud’s form has picked up towards the end of the clay court season, and he will have his sights set on another deep run at Roland Garros, having reached the final in 2022 and 2023. Ruud was unable to defend his Madrid Open title, which saw him move out of the top 20 of the world rankings for the first time in five years, but he still advanced to the last eight. He enjoyed his best run of the season in Rome as he made it all the way to the final, losing to Jannik Sinner. His first-round opponent is Roman Safiullin. The Russian qualified for this event and won a Challenger title in Mauthausen at the start of this month. That was his second title of the year, but he is still ranked outside of the top 140 in the world.
Ruud leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a comfortable win in Toronto last year. The three-time slam finalist is a clear favourite.
