Casper Ruud wasn’t at his best but still safely booked his place in the second-round with a 6-3 6-4 6-2 win over Spanish veteran Albert Ramos-Vinolas. The unforced error count may have been a slight concern to the Norwegian, with 23 errors on his forehand but the result was still never beyond any doubt. Ruud made the final in 2022 and 2023, while he also reached the last four last year and should be expected to make a deep run once again.
Nuno Borges will be his opponent in the second-round after he came from two sets down to defeat French qualifier Kyrian Jacquet 3-6 6-7 6-4 6-3 6-3 and record just his second ever victory at Roland Garros.
This will be their first match on clay but Ruud comfortably defeated the Portuguese 6-3 6-2 in the quarter-finals of Los Cabos last year. The world number eight will likely iron out any issues from his first-round match and we predict an improved performance and another straight sets win.
