Carlos Alcaraz vs Sebastian Baez prediction

Carlos Alcaraz begins his clay court season at the Monte-Carlo Masters. He is the defending champion at the event, and he enjoyed a stellar campaign on the surface last year, making the final of all four tournaments that he competed in, winning three of them. This is his first match on clay since his epic win at the French Open last year. Alcaraz suffered his first dip in form this year at the Sunshine Double events, as he was beaten in the semi-finals of Indian Wells and then fell to a surprising third-round loss to Sebastian Korda in Miami.

He will take on Sebastian Baez after receiving a bye. Baez beat 2014 champion Stan Wawrinka in the first-round. Baez was 4-1 down in the first set but won six of the next seven games to lead. He reeled off three more games at the start of the second and looked on course for victory, but the three-time Grand Slam champion broke back when Baez was serving for the match. Nevertheless, the Argentine would break again and served the match out at the second attempt to win 7-5 7-5.

This is the third ATP meeting between the pair, and the first on clay, with Alcaraz leading the head-to-head 2-0. The seven-time Grand Slam champion is the clear favourite and should begin his defence with a comfortable win.
