Carlos Alcaraz reached the Italian Open semi-final for the first time after defeating world number five Jack Draper in straight sets. The Spaniard recovered from going a break down early on in the first set to win 6-4 6-4. He has still lost just once on clay so far this season, having won the Monte-Carlo Masters and reached the final of the Barcelona Open before missing Madrid due to an adductor issue.

Alcaraz is aiming for a third straight clay court final, but is up against home favourite Lorenzo Musetti. Musetti delighted the home crowd with a straight sets win over defending champion Alexander Zverev. Zverev was 5-4 40-0 up in the first set but Musetti managed to save numerous set points before taking the set on a tiebreak. He eventually won 7-6 6-4. 

The head-to-head is 4-1 in Alcaraz’s favour and 2-1 on clay. They last competed just last month in the final of Monte-Carlo with the four-time Grand Slam champion recovering from a set down to win against a tired Musetti. This could be close, with Alcaraz’s serve not being at its best and Musetti’s impressive break point conversion. Nevertheless, we’re backing the Spaniard to win in three.
