Carlos Alcaraz dropped his first set of the tournament but still made it through to the third-round with a win over Fabian Marozsan. The Spaniard started well but suffered a dip in form as the Hungarian squared the match up. Nevertheless, he regrouped to finish the match strongly, delighting the crowd with a number of passing shots as he won 6-1 4-6 6-1 6-2.
He continues his quest for a fifth major title against Damir Dzumhur. The Bosnian reached the third-round here for the first time since 2018 with a four set victory over 32nd seed Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Dzumhur coped well with the big serving Frenchman, winning 7-6 6-3 4-6 6-4.
They have not competed on the main tour against each other but did play in the final of a Challenger in Barcelona five years ago, with a 17-year-old Alcaraz coming from a set down to win on that occasion. Though he dropped a set in the last round, the world number two has been mostly untroubled in his opening two matches and we don’t expect anything different in this third-round encounter.
