Camilo Ugo Carabelli has hit form during this South American clay court season. He defended his Challenger title in Rosario, winning five matches in a row and dropping just one set. He then notched up two more victories to make the quarter-finals of the Argentina Open, his home event. His run would end after a loss to Sebastian Baez in straight sets.
Roman Andres Burruchaga got through to the final in Rosario but lost to Ugo Carabelli in straight sets. He comfortably defeated Laslo Djere in round one of the Argentina Open to set up a match with Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the round-of-16. Despite pushing Etcheverry all the way, Burruchaga would lose in three sets after an epic battle which exceeded three hours and 30 minutes.
Burruchaga will be a test for Ugo Carabelli and has won two of their five matches at Challenger level. This should be a hard fought first-round match between the two Argentinians.
