Cam Norrie will hope a good run at a tournament he holds dear to his heart can propel him back towards achieving his goal of a return to the top 20.
The British number two sits just inside the top 30 having lost his last two matches but knows the conditions in Indian Wells suit his game, having lifted the title here back in 2021.
Norrie leads the match-up 1-0 but that routine victory was way back in 2019. The lefty also won two lower tier matches with McDonald back in 2017.
The American is almost 100 places below the Brit in the rankings but relishes a challenge and has been flawless here so far, rampaging through qualifying and then crushing Matteo Arnaldi 6-0 6-1.
McDonald hasn’t liked this match-up in the past but his form here can’t be overlooked. Norrie may well require his trademark battling qualities and if he needs to, he should outlast his fellow 30-year-old to disappoint the home support.
