Cameron Norrie came through with the win on the opening day of the Monte-Carlo Masters as he defeated Miomir Kecmanovic in three sets. The current British number one played a perfect deciding set tiebreak to claim a 6-2 4-6 7-6 (0) win.
He goes up against Alex de Minaur in the next stage of the tournament. The Australian received a bye in the first-round as the fifth seed. His season began strongly as he reached the Australian Open quarter-finals and won the title in Rotterdam, but he has suffered a slump in form since. De Minaur has lost three of his last four matches, and he continued his poor record against Stefanos Tsitsipas in Miami as he was on the end of a straight sets defeat.
Norrie leads the head-to-head 3-2 and won their last meeting at Indian Wells just a month ago. However, De Minaur has won their only match on clay and enjoys a fine record at this event, having reached the semi-finals last year, along with a quarter-final appearance in 2024.
De Minaur will view this as an ideal opportunity to get back to winning ways as he begins his clay court season, while he will also be out for revenge against Norrie.
