Cagliari started well but have drifted down towards the bottom end of the table as the Sardinians now prepare to take on a desperately struggling Genoa side this week.

Cagliari preview: Struggling Sardinians

Cagliari come into this one on the back of a goalless draw away to Como in their most recent outing at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia a couple of weeks ago, extending their winless run of form to seven matches in Serie A.

The Sardinians had started the season reasonably well with two victories in their opening four matches but they have since regressed under the management of rookie boss Tomasso Giulini.

Genoa preview: Post-Vieira era

Patrick Vieira did an impressive job in charge of Genoa last season but they went winless in the opening nine matches of the campaign and so he has since now been replaced by former Roma manager Daniele De Rossi.

Following the departure of Vieira, and prior to the appointment of De Rossi, the Genovese managed to defeat Sassuolo by two goals to one away from home before a 2-2 draw against Fiorentina at Luigi Ferraris in Liguria.

Cagliari team news: Nothing fresh

Cagliari have no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues for this one but they do have some doubts such as Alessandro Deiola and Croatia international Marko Rog.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Caprile; Zappa, Yerry Mina, Luperto; Palestra, Gaetano, Prati, Folorunsho, Obert; Felici, Esposito

Unavailable: Belotti (Injured)

Questionable: Deiola (Injured), Rog (Injured)

Genoa team news: Quartet of doubts

Genoa are dealing with a quartet of injury doubts for this weekend as attacking duo Caleb Ekuban and Maxwel Cornet are potentially sidelined alongside Jean Onana.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Leali; Marcandalli, Ostigard, Johan Vasquez; Norton-Cuffy, Frendrup, Thorsby, Caricol; Ellertsson, Vitinha; Colombo

Unavailable:

Questionable: Otoa (Injured), Onana (Injured), Ekuban (Injured), Cornet (Injured)

Cagliari vs Genoa prediction

At the start of the season, with Tommaso Giulini at the helm, Cagliari attempted to become a little more proactive and on the front foot but they have since regressed quite significantly. They now face a Genoa side that are expected to be hard-working and industrious now with De Rossi at the helm and a low-scoring encounter is to be expected but the so-called ‘new manager bounce’ appears a good bet for this one, backing the visitors.

Cagliari vs Genoa tip: Double chance – Genoa to win or draw & under 3.5 goals
