Brandon Nakashima progressed to round three in Rome after beating Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets. The first set was competitive, with both players trading breaks at the start of the match. However, the American ran away with things after that, as he won the final nine games to complete a 6-4 6-0 victory.
He now takes on Nikoloz Basilashvili. The Georgian, who had to qualify for the tournament, produced one of the biggest shocks of the previous round as he got past Ben Shelton. The American had lost his opening match in Madrid, and he was on the end of another loss here as Basilashvili won 6-4 6-7 (5) 6-3.
This is their first ATP meeting, though Basilashvili defeated Nakashima at a Challenger event in Bordeaux last year, on clay. Nakashima is the favourite, but Basilashvili is coming into this on the back of his best win in years, and he can be a tough opponent.
