THE LOWDOWN
Sunny Edwards (16-0) makes his return from injury to make the first defence of his IBF flyweight world title. The Brit was last seen back in April of this year when he defeated Moruti Mthalane in impressive fashion to claim his maiden world title but this will be a very tough task back in the ring against Jayson Mama and Edwards will have to rely on breaking his opponent down rather than stopping the fight early having achieved just four KOs from his 16 bouts to date.
Jayson Mama (16-0) boasts an identical W-L record to that of defending champion Sunny Edwards but the Philippine boasts a superior KO ratio and he will hope that can prove to be the difference between the two. However, the 24-year-old is facing the toughest bout of his career in what is his first world title shot and with his last three opponents entering their respective fights with Mama with a combined record of 30-22-3, this step up in class could be too much for Mama.
THE PREDICTION
Sunny Edwards will make a welcome return to the ring following a long injury lay-off and he will now get the chance to defend the IBF flyweight world title that he earned in his last bout. Edwards does not possess a great deal of power which is no surprise in this weight division but his technical ability is superb and that will be key to seeing off Jayson Mama. The Philippine is also unbeaten but his lack of quality opposition is likely to see him fall short here with Edwards able to retain his crown.
