THE LOWDOWN
Nonito Donaire (41-6) will aim to defend his WBC bantamweight world title as he takes on Reymart Gaballo in Los Angeles. After losing his WBA and IBF crowns to Naoya Inoue, Donaire produced a superb display to KO the previously undefeated Nordine Oubaali to become a world champion once again but he will need to show some greater consistency if he is to retain his belt having lost three of his last seven bouts.
Reymart Gaballo (24-0) has made an excellent start to his career and the unbeaten Philippine will now look to become a fully-fledged world champion for the first time. He has twice claimed an interim bantamweight world title, including the WBC crown last time out as he got the better of Emmanuel Rodriguez by way of a split decision but this is the prize he will be desperate to claim.
THE PREDICTION
This should be a superb fight between Philippine compatriots Nonito Donaire and Reymart Gaballo. 39-year-old Donaire is coming towards the end of his career with Gaballo 14 years his junior and the latter will hope that being the more agile of the two can prove to be pivotal. Despite his age, Gaballo has plenty of experience having won all of his 24 fights to date and with Donaire lacking consistency over the last few years, the underdog is worth chancing to remain undefeated at a tempting price.
