Borussia Monchengladbach and Werder Bremen will both be aiming to push towards the top seven and the European spots in the Bundesliga this season.

Kick-off date/time:

How to watch on TV: UK – Sky Sports / US – ESPN

How to watch online: UK – Sky Go / US – ESPN+

Borussia Monchengladbach preview: Lacklustre Gladbach

Borussia Monchengladbach come into this one on the back of a slender 1-0 defeat to Stuttgart at the VfB Stadion a couple of weeks ago, prior to the September international break, due to a 79th minute strike from former Real Madrid defender Chema Andres in that game.

On the opening day of the season, Gladbach had been lacklustre in their performance as they shared a goalless draw with newly-promoted Hamburg. Gerardo Seoane has been tasked with toning down his overly attacking style of football, but the opening games have perhaps gone above and beyond a natural stagnation.

Werder Bremen preview: Werder kicking on

Werder Bremen have been steadily rebuilding and improving over recent years, and they will believe they can easily build on narrowly missing out on European qualification on the final day of the season, especially by poaching impressive former Elversberg coach Horst Steffen.

Werder began the 2025/26 Bundesliga season with a 4-1 annihilation at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt away from home, before then sharing a thrilling 3-3 draw with Bayer Leverkusen at the Weserstadion in a game in which they were 1-0 and 3-1 down before a last-gasp Abdoul Karim Coulibaly equaliser.

Borussia Monchengladbach team news: Scally a doubt

Having been left out by the United States, right-back Joe Scally needs to fight back this season, but he is a doubt for this match day as a result of a recently sustained thigh injury.

Predicted XI (4-1-4-1): Nicolas; Chiarodia, Elvedi, Diks, Ullrich; Sander; Honorat, Reitz, Stoger, Hack; Machino

Unavailable: Ngoumou (Injured), Swider (Injured), Kleindienst (Injured)

Questionable: Scally (Injured)

Werder Bremen team news: Stark suspended

Werder Bremen will be without defender Niklas Stark, as he is missing through suspension, and they also have key injury issues, including Max Wober and Mitchell Weiser.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Nagata; Sugawara, Schmidt, Coulibaly, Agu; Covic, Lynen; Njinmah, Schmid, Mbangula; Grull

Unavailable: Stark (Suspended), Wober (Injured), Deman (Injured), Weiser (Injured)

Questionable: Pieper (Injured), Malatini (Injured), Friedl (Injured), Stage (Injured)

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Werder Bremen prediction

These are two sides that began the season with hopes of kicking on, with one side sticking and the other twisting in the managerial dugout. They have gone about their ways of getting a point from their opening two matches very differently, but the style of Werder would certainly be more encouraging for their supporters, and siding with the visitors at Borussia Park would appear a good value shout here this weekend.

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Werder Bremen tip: Double chance - Werder Bremen to win or draw
