Borussia Dortmund Team News: Potential centre-back shortage

Niklas Sule is out injured and Waldemar Anton is a big doubt, so Borussia Dortmund are once again dealing with a lack of centre-back options for this game. The likelihood is that Emre Can will slot in alongside Nico Schlotterbeck.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Kobel; Ryerson, Can, Schlotterbeck, Bensebaini; Gross, Sabitzer; Beier, Brandt, Gittens; Guirassy

Unavailable: Sule (Injured)

Questionable: Anton (Injured)

Werder Bremen Team News: Four out for visiting side

Left-back Felix Agu misses out for Werder Bremen through injury, as does centre-back Julian Malatini. Niklas is ill and also won’t be available, whilst Keke Topp remains absent due to his syndesmosis ligament tear.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Zetterer; Veljkovic, Friedl, Jung; Schmid, Weiser, Stage, Lynen, Kohn; Njinmah, Ducksch

Unavailable: Agu (Injured), Malatini (Injured), Stark (Illness), Topp (foot)

Borussia Dortmund Vs Werder Bremen Prediction

With Borussia Dortmund sat all the way back in tenth-place and suffering through a run of three successive league defeats, the club’s board have acted by terminating the contract of head coach Nuri Sahin. A 2-1 loss away to Bologna in the Champions League proved the final straw for Sahin, who was in only his first season as head coach.

Werder Bremen will need to contend with an expected backlash from the hosts and come into this match in poor form themselves. Ole Werner’s side have picked up just one point from the last nine available to them and are averaging three goals conceded per game over their last three Bundesliga fixtures.

Mike Tullberg has been named interim head coach of the hosts and he’ll be expected to gain a reaction out of this Dortmund squad. They are significantly better than what their league position suggests and a chance of personnel in charge can sometimes lead to a short sharp improvement. Back the home team to get the better of Werder in this one.
