Bologna preview: Indifferent Bologna
Bologna returned from the September international break with a 1-0 loss to AC Milan at San Siro in their most recent outing last weekend, with Croatia captain Luka Modric scoring the only goal of the game for the Rossoneri in that one.
After another summer of change, following a late season collapse away from the European spots in Serie A last year, Bologna have now started the 2025/26 campaign with a win and two defeats in their opening three matches.
Genoa preview: Genoa need a win
Mid-way through last season, Genoa replaced the man who had taken them back into Serie A, Alberto Gilardino, with former Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira, and he managed to steer them to a secure mid-table finish.
However, the visitors have been frustrated at the start of this season with two points collected from their opening three games. Genoa most recently shared a 1-1 draw with Como at Stadio Giuseppe Singaglia last weekend, courtesy of a late equaliser.
Bologna team news: A few injuries
Bologna have several injury issues for this weekend’s visit of Genoa and they are also dealing with key defensive injury doubts, such as Nicolo Casale and Erik Holm.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Skorupski; Zortea, Heggem, Jhon Lucumi, Lykogiannis; Fabbian, Ferguson, Freuler; Orsolini, Castro, Cambiaghi
Unavailable: Pobega (Injured), Sulemana (Injured), Immobile (Injured)
Questionable: Casale (Injured), Holm (Injured)
Genoa team news: Couple of doubts
As they make the trip to Bologna this weekend, Genoa are dealing with a couple of key doubts such as midfielder Jean Onana and West Ham United loanee Maxwel Cornet.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Leali; Sabelli, Ostigard, Johan Vasquez, Caricol; Masini, Frendrup; Norton-Cuffy, Malinovskiy, Ellertsson; Colombo
Unavailable:
Questionable: Onana (Injured), Cornet (Injured)
Bologna vs Genoa prediction
Vincenzo Italiano remains at the helm at Bologna but the Petronians have had to once again deal with the departure of key forward Dan Ndoye this summer, who joined Nottingham Forest. They have suffered in their fluency going forward. They face a Genoa side that lack any sort of real quality and ingenuity in the final third, perhaps best shown by Vieira now deploying right-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy on the wing. A low-scoring affair seems likely for this one, regardless of the end match result.
Bologna vs Genoa tip: Under 2.5 goals
