Ben Shelton vs Carlos Alcaraz prediction

Ben Shelton had spent nearly five days off court after his second-round opponent Hugo Gaston was forced to withdraw from the tournament before their match had taken place. Nevertheless, he still wrapped up a comfortable third-round victory over Matteo Gigante, winning 6-3 6-3 6-4. 

He now takes on Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz raced into a two set lead against Damir Dzumhur in his third-round match and seemed to have everything under control. However, the Bosnian fought back, as he won the third set and went a break up in the fourth. Despite clear frustration and a failure to serve it out, the Spaniard managed to wrestle back the momentum and seal a 6-1 6-3 4-6 6-4 victory in a match which totalled over three hours.

Alcaraz has now suffered blips in his two previous matches against Dzumhur and Fabian Marozsan, conceding a set in both, but he still finds a way and has lost just once on clay this season. He also leads the head-to-head against Shelton 2-0.

The Spaniard has not been entirely consistent so far but he’s still excellent value to make it through against Shelton.
