Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Jessica Bouzas Maneiro prediction

Beatriz Haddad Maia ended her losing run in Oeiras last week, but her poor form continued as she was heavily beaten by Maja Chwalinska. It’s been a tough season for the Brazilian up to this point, with just two wins from 12 matches. She did perform well at this event two years ago, making it to the quarter-finals.

She faces Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the first-round. It’s also been a tough campaign for the Spaniard, with nine losses from 13 matches. Bouzas Maneiro last competed in Bogota at the start of this month but could only manage a second-round appearance as she was defeated in three sets by Varvara Lepchenko. 

Bouzas Maneiro has won their two previous meetings. She defeated Haddad Maia in the Billie Jean King Cup last year and also beat the Brazilian just a month ago in the first-round of Indian Wells. Bouzas Maneiro dominated the first and third sets to win 6-1 6-7 (5) 6-1. Neither player is close to their best at the moment, but Bouzas Maneiro will take confidence from how she has performed in the matchup before, and she will want to produce a strong showing at her home event.
