Barcelona preview: Winning again

Barcelona come into this one on the back of a 2-1 victory over Newcastle United in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League at St James’ Park in midweek, courtesy of a brilliant brace scored by England international attacker Marcus Rashford.

The Blaugrana returned from the September international break with a 6-0 demolition of Valencia at Estadi Johan Cruyff last weekend. They had gone into that break with an underwhelming performance in a 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano at Vallecas.

Getafe preview: Strong start

Jose Bordalas’ Getafe have once again punched above their weight at the start of the 2025/26 La Liga campaign. The Madrid-based outfit have managed to pick up three victories from their opening four matches as they begin the weekend sitting fourth.

The visitors returned from the break with a comfortable 2-0 defeat of ten-man Real Oviedo at the Coliseum in the capital city last weekend. The two goals were scored in first-half stoppage-time by Mario Martin and then Borja Mayoral.

Barcelona team news: De Jong back but no Lamine Yamal

Frenkie de Jong was a doubt for their trip in midweek but he is now available and played in that game. Key man Lamine Yamal missed that due to a groin injury and he remains sidelined for the defending champions.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Joan Garcia; Kounde, Christensen, Eric Garcia, Gerard Martin; Pedri, De Jong; Raphinha, Fermin Lopez, Rashford; Lewandowski

Unavailable: Ter Stegen (Injured), Alex Balde (Injured), Gavi (Injured), Dani Rodriguez (Ineligible), Lamine Yamal (Injured)

Getafe team news: Nothing fresh

There are no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues for Getafe this weekend as they travel to Barcelona. Only experienced striker Juanmi remains sidelined for the visitors.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): David Soria; Abqar, Domingos Duarte, Djene; Kiko Femenia, Mario Martin, Luis Milla, Mauro Arambarri, Diego Rico; Adrian Liso, Borja Mayoral

Unavailable: Juanmi (Injured)

Barcelona vs Getafe prediction

This match is once again being played at the smaller Estadi Johan Cruyff as a result of Camp Nou once again not yet being ready to play, despite Barcelona’s initial plans. As the season goes on, the intensity and aggression of Barca is beginning to show. On a tight pitch in a tight ground, Getafe stand a better chance of keeping things closer than Valencia, but Barca should still ease their way to 13 points in La Liga this weekend.

Barcelona vs Getafe tip: Barcelona to win -1 handicap
