Barbora Krejcikova’s return to fitness and form makes her a dangerous opponent at the US Open.

The two-time Grand Slam champion is no stranger to putting a stunning run together at majors and she avenged her Wimbledon loss against tenth seed Emma Navarro to back up her victory over the much-hyped Victoria Mboko.

The world number 62 will now take on the USA’s Taylor Townsend, who has made headlines off the court following comments by Jelena Ostapenko.

The world number 139 has done most of her talking with the tennis ball as she followed up that win over the Latvian with an even better performance to oust fifth seed Mirra Andreeva 7-5 6-2.

Many Americans will fancy the world number one in doubles to continue her fairytale run, but Krejcikova is a happy party-pooper when she’s in the zone and there have been clear signs she’s hitting some of her best form at Flushing Meadows over the past week.

The Czech did win their only previous meeting but that was way back in 2017. It may not have much significance in terms of this match eight years on, but we expect the outcome to be the same with the former world number two likely to have too much variety overall.
