Auxerre preview: Rock-bottom Auxerre

Auxerre, in their second season back in the French top-flight, have struggled badly as they set to suffer from ‘second season syndrome’ with just two victories in their 12 matches, having, staggeringly, scored just seven goals in those games.

Christophe Pelissier’s side most recently suffered a 2-0 loss to Angers at Stade Raymond Kopa a couple of weeks ago. The home team have now suffered four successive defeats in Ligue 1.

Lyon preview: Steady Lyon

Olympique Lyonnais, coached by Paulo Fonseca, albeit he has been in the stands due to suspension throughout the campaign, begin the 13th match day of the top-flight campaign sitting just outside of the top six in Ligue 1.

They have become a bit more solid and difficult to play against but they most recently suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to Paris Saint-Germain, due to a last-gasp goal, meaning that they have now managed just two victories in their last eight matches.

Auxerre team news: Several injuries

Auxerre are dealing with several injury issues for the visit of Lyon this weekend with former Watford defender Francisco Sierralta remaining sidelined alongside Lasso Coulibaly.

Predicted XI (4-2-4): Leon; Sy, Legros, Akpa, Oppegard; Matondo, Danois; Sinayoko, Loader, Mara, Osman

Unavailable: Senaya (Injured), Siwe (Injured), Francisco Sierralta (Injured), Buayi-Kiala (Injured), Owusu (Injured), Coulibaly (Injured)

Questionable: El Azzouzi (Injured)

Lyon team news: Plenty of issues

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is now a doubt due to illness for Lyon, whilst both Ruben Kluivert and Rachid Ghezzal have been ruled out due to injuries sustained in the last few days.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Greif; Barisic, Clinton Mata, Niakhate; Tessmann, Tolisso, Goncalves, De Carvalho; Merah, Afonso; Martin Satriano

Unavailable: Kluivert (Injured), Mangala (Injured), Tagliafico (Suspended), Morton (Suspended), Hateboer (Suspended), Fofana (Injured), Ghezzal (Injured)

Questionable: Maitland-Niles (Illness), Sulc (Injured)

Auxerre vs Lyon prediction

It has been a miserable season for Auxerre. The hosts were enterprising at times last season before eventually being dragged down the table and battening down the hatches to stay up. This time around, they have simply lacked any quality or attacking cohesion. They face a Lyon side that have a lot of quality but they are desperately short of personnel and this is a brilliant opportunity to back a surprise, value bet.

Auxerre vs Lyon tip: Double chance – Auxerre to win or draw
