Augsburg vs Bayer Leverkusen prediction

Bayer Leverkusen couldn’t have responded better to going down 1-2 to Borussia Dortmund at the BayArena last weekend in their big Bundesliga clash. The two clubs locked horns again midweek in the DFB-Pokal, this time in Dortmund but it was Leverkusen who came out on top this time around. Kasper Hjulmand’s side dug in defensively and Ibrahim Maza’s first half goal proved enough to win the night.

Augsburg are currently just two points adrift of the bottom three, mainly due to having lost four of their last five in the Bundesliga. Three of those four defeats saw them concede at least three goals, underlining the fragilities and unstable nature of their backline. This is something Leverkusen should take advantage of with the players at their disposal.

No away fixture in the German top flight is easy, especially a match in Augsburg and Leverkusen will no doubt be tired following their efforts in midweek. But Hjulmand has established a real air of grit and determination among his squad, combined with the quality required to open up defences, especially with Patrik Schick back fully fit. Therefore, backing them against Augsburg has to be favoured.
