It has been an impressive few months for Atletico Madrid as a strong Los Rojiblancos side welcome last season’s runners’ up Internazionale to the Metropolitano.

Atletico Madrid preview: Impressive Atleti

Diego Simeone came under immense pressure at the start of this season, perhaps more so than ever before, a couple of months ago, but they have limited the damage and are now pushing towards the top of both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.

A Domingos Duarte own goal gave Atleti a slender 1-0 victory against city rivals Getafe the other day to mean that they are now on a five-match winning streak across all competitions since losing to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Inter Milan preview: Steady Inter

Over the summer, following the departure of Simone Inzaghi to Al Hilal, Internazionale took the surprise decision to appoint former Parma boss Cristian Chivu. The Nerazzurri were poor at the start of this season but they have been much-improved since then.

They have won four out of four in the UEFA Champions League but their title challenge in Serie A has been dealt a blow after they suffered a slender 1-0 defeat to AC Milan at San Siro in the Derby della Madonnina at the weekend.

Atletico Madrid team news: International break injuries

Slovenia international goalkeeper Jan Oblak sustained an injury over the international break and he is now doubtful, as is Thiago Almada.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Musso; Molina, Gimenez, Hancko, Ruggeri; Simeone, Barrios, Koke, Baena; Alvarez, Griezmann

Unavailable: Le Normand (Injured), Llorente (Injured)

Questionable: Oblak (Injured), Almada (Injured)

Inter Milan team news: Still no Mkhitaryan

Experienced midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan remains sidelined for the visitors alongside former Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian and key wing-back Denzel Dumfries.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Sommer; Akanji, Acerbi, Bastoni; Augusto, Calhanoglu, Barella, Zielinski, Dimarco; Martinez, Thuram

Unavailable: Darmian (Injured), Dumfries (Injured), Mkhitaryan (Injured)

Questionable:

Atletico Madrid vs Inter Milan prediction

This season is beginning to identically replicate how the first-half of last season went for Atletico Madrid. The hosts have become very impressive as the season has gone on. They face an Inter side that appear to want to defy the odds and expectations that they would massively regress under Chivu. They have perhaps gone slightly backwards but have remained strong. That said, against real attacking competence, they appear very susceptible and, surprisingly, Atleti are now a side that have actual attacking competence.

Atletico Madrid vs Inter Milan Tip: Double chance – Atletico Madrid to win or draw
