Atletico Madrid preview: Up for the cups

Atletico Madrid hammered Tottenham Hotspur by five goals to two in the first-leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie in midweek. Los Rojiblancos went 4-0 up just over 20 minutes into that game and they should ease through in London next week.

Diego Simeone and his big spending Atleti side can ensure it is a memorable season, having reached the Copa del Rey final with a two-legged win against Barcelona and now seemingly on the verge of setting up a UEFA Champions League quarter-final, too.

Getafe preview: Solid Getafe

Jose Bordalas and his Getafe side come into this one on the back of a comfortable and impressive 2-0 defeat of Real Betis at the Coliseum last weekend, courtesy of first-half strikes from Kiko Femenia and Martin Satriano.

That victory backed up their famous 1-0 win at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid, meaning that they have now enjoyed four wins in their last five matches, suffering just one loss in their last seven games as they push for European qualification.

Atletico Madrid team news: Nothing fresh

Atletico Madrid have no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues as defensive midfielder Pablo Barrios is sidelined alongside winter window signing Rodri Mendoza.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Oblak; Molina, Jose Maria Gimenez, Hancko, Ruggeri; Giuliano Simeone, Koke, Johnny, Alex Baena; Sorloth, Lookman

Unavailable: Pablo Barrios (Injured), Rodri Mendoza (Injured)

Getafe team news: Couple of doubts

Getafe are dealing with a couple of injury doubts for this one as versatile defender Davinchi is potentially sidelined alongside striker Borja Mayoral.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): David Soria; Abqar, Domingos Duarte, Diego Rico; Djene, Luis Milla, Mauro Arambarri, Juan Iglesias; Kiko Femenia, Luis Vazquez, Martin Satriano

Unavailable: Kamara (Ineligible)

Questionable: Davinchi (Injured), Borja Mayoral (Injured)

Atletico Madrid vs Getafe prediction

Jose Bordalas has achieved managerial success by copying the ‘Cholismo’ style of football of Diego Simeone – but taking the hostility and so-called ‘dark arts’ to the extreme. However, Atletico are now one of the more entertaining teams in Europe, having scored three or more goals against Real Mallorca, Real Betis, Barcelona, Club Brugge twice, Espanyol, Real Sociedad and Spurs in the last two months. Given the form of their visitors, too, it should be a surprisingly fun watch for the neutral.

Atletico Madrid vs Getafe tip: Atletico Madrid to win & both teams to score
