Athletic Bilbao Preview: Focus on Europe

Last week, Athletic Club moved themselves into the semi-finals of a UEFA Europa League campaign whereby the final is scheduled to be played at their home ground of San Mames in Bilbao next month.

Ernesto Valverde’s side defeated Scottish Premiership side and 2022 UEFA Europa League runners’ up Rangers by two goals to nil in the Basque Country last week courtesy of goals from Oihan Sancet and Nico Williams.

Las Palmas Preview: Las Palmas’ improvement

Las Palmas, on the other hand, have been fully focused on La Liga, though, with the Canary Islanders trying to push themselves away from the bottom three and the relegation places but they have recently earned much-needed back-to-back victories.

Diego Martinez’ side had been winless for the entirety of 2025 before a come-from-behind 3-1 defeat of Getafe about ten days ago and that was backed up by them defeating Atletico Madrid at the weekend due to a second-half stoppage-time winner scored by Javier Munoz.

Athletic Bilbao Team News: Potential rotation

As mentioned, Athletic have been focusing on the UEFA Europa League this season so they may be keen to continue to rest and rotate this week. Spain international winger Nico Williams remains a doubt, though, due to a groin issue.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Unai Simon; Andoni Gorosabel, Unai Nunez, Aitor Paredes, Boiro; Benat Prados, Mikel Vesga; Alvaro Djalo, Alex Berenguer, Unai Gomez; Gorka Guruzeta

Unavailable:

Questionable: Nico Williams (Injured)

Las Palmas Team News: No Javier Munoz

The aforementioned match winning goal scorer from the weekend, Javier Munoz, is unavailable for Las Palmas’ trip to the Basque Country as he is missing through suspension, whilst key players Jasper Cillessen and Fabio Silva are both sidelined, too.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Horkas; Viti, Alex Suarez, McKenna, Mika Marmol; Park, Dario Essugo, Stefan Bajcetic, Alberto Moleiro; McBurnie, Sandro

Unavailable: Cillessen (Injured), Kirian Rodriguez (Illness), Javier Munoz (Suspended), Silva (Injured)

Questionable: Pelmard (Injured), Benito (Injured)

Athletic Bilbao vs Las Palmas Prediction

Athletic Club are all but secured of a top four finish and UEFA Champions League qualification this season as they seek another trophy with a European trophy to back up their Copa del Rey last season, which ended a 40-year drought for a major honour. Las Palmas have, almost out of nowhere, pulled off a couple of massive results and they will be confident as they head to the Basque Country so both teams scoring may well be a good bet for this one at San Mames.

Athletic Bilbao vs Las Palmas Tip: Both teams to score
