Ashlyn Krueger vs Maria Sakkari prediction
Ashlyn Krueger has failed to recapture the form that took her all the way to the final of the Abu Dhabi Open back in February. Krueger also got through to the round-of-16 of the Miami Open but her performances since that point have been largely disappointing. She has lost 14 of her last 23 matches on the WTA Tour. Her last event was in Seoul last week and she was tamely beaten by Eva Lys in straight sets in her round one match.
Maria Sakkari has struggled to maintain consistency and that has seen her tumble out of the top 50 of the world rankings in 2025. The Greek was able to reach the third-round of the US Open and will hope for another strong showing in Beijing, having got through to the quarter-finals here two years ago. However, the Greek fared poorly in Guadalajara a fortnight ago, losing heavily to Elsa Jacquemot in round one.
Sakkari’s experience may just prove to be the difference in this first-round match, but she will need to be ready from the off against Krueger.
