She recorded a strong first-round victory over Sofia Kenin but then came unstuck against Jaqueline Cristian, despite taking the first set. Her first-round opponent in Seoul is Eva Lys. Her injury struggles continued in New York as she was forced to retire from her second-round match against Linda Noskova. This was just a week after she was withdrew from a tournament in Cleveland after making the quarter-finals. Lys is a talent, as evidenced by her run to the fourth-round of the Australian Open as a qualifier earlier this year, but her preexisting spinal condition is becoming an ever-increasing problem as she deals with the rigours of the tour on a weekly basis.
Krueger is the stronger player on this surface and will be the favourite to advance in this first-round match.
