Aryna Sabalenka vs Laura Siegemund prediction
Aryna Sabalenka continued her progress at Wimbledon as she beat Elise Mertens 6-4 7-6 in the round-of-16. The world number one has not dropped a set yet in this tournament but was made to work for her win against Mertens, as she came from 3-1 down in the second set to take it on a tiebreak. She made just 18 unforced errors as she reached the quarter-finals at her 11th consecutive Grand Slam tournament.
She will now face Laura Siegemund after she backed up her victory against Madison Keys with a win against lucky loser Solana Sierra. The German enjoyed a comfortable match as she beat Sierra 6-3 6-2 and she’s into the quarter-finals of a major for the second time, having also achieved the feat at the 2020 French Open.
Sabalenka leads the head-to-head 2-0 but they haven’t played each other since 2019. Siegemund has done remarkably well to get to this stage but she will find it tough to overcome the power of Sabalenka, especially from the baseline. The world number one will be expected to win in straight sets once more.
