Aryna Sabalenka vs Amanda Anisimova prediction

Aryna Sabalenka had to hit the comeback trail to remain on course for her fourth Grand Slam title.

The world number one saw off last year’s runner-up Jessica Pegula 4-6 6-3 6-4 to reach her third straight US Open final.

The Belarusian will meet Amanda Anisimova in Saturday’s showdown for the trophy after the eighth seed beat a resurgent Naomi Osaka 6-7 7-6 6-3.

It provides the American with the chance for immediate redemption just weeks on from the chastening experience of failing to win a game in her maiden major final at Wimbledon.

Anisimova will have reason for optimism too, despite being the underdog as she prepares to meet Sabalenka for the 10th time.

The world number nine, who will rise to a career-high of number four on Monday, leads the head-to-head 6-3 and won their most recent clash 6-4 4-6 6-4 in the Wimbledon semi-finals.

There’s no doubt Anisimova is one of the few players who can live with and match Sabalenka’s raw power, which makes this a mouthwatering prospect on paper.

It comes down to how strong the American will be mentally given the nerves displayed at Wimbledon. If she can control her emotions and use the hunger and desire to lift a first Grand Slam title in the right manner, she should have a decent shot.

Sabalenka will be desperate to make it third time lucky in major finals this year and will be an obvious favourite, so the odds will favour backing Anisimova to give a much better account of herself and at least take this to a decider.
