Alexander Zverev continued his utter dominance over Frances Tiafoe to reach the Indian Wells quarter finals for just the third time.
The German was too consistent for the American as he scored a 6-3 6-4 win to stretch his lead to 9-1 in the head-to-head.
The fourth seed will now take on Arthur Fils for a spot in a maiden semi final in the desert after the Frenchman upset Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3 7-6.
This will be their seventh meeting with Zverev 4-2 up, although the last four encounters have been shared with Fils winning their only previous clash on an outdoor hardcourt last year.
Fils has been in fine form since returning from injury and is likely to fancy his chances of another shock win.
It’s certainly worth the consideration, but with four of their six showdowns going the distance, we think there’s a strong chance this will go three too.
