Anna Bondar qualified for the tournament after straight set victories over Chenting Zhu and Diane Parry. The Hungarian ended a three match losing run with a superb victory over Elina Svitolina in the first-round of the US Open, though she failed to sustain that performance level as she was beaten by Maria Sakkari in the next round. Aside from that Svitolina victory, Bondar has just one hard court victory on the WTA Tour this season.

Bianca Andreescu makes her return to the tour in Beijing, having not featured since withdrawing from the Canadian Open at the end of July. She suffered an ankle sprain in her first-round match and that forced her to miss the US Open, an event she won in 2019. It’s been an injury hit campaign for Andreescu, who already missed the first three months of 2025 with a back injury that curtailed her 2024 season.

They have faced each other once before, at Wimbledon in the first-round two years ago, with Andreescu going on to win in three sets. Bondar has momentum from qualifying and is likely to prove too much for the Canadian, who will be short of match fitness.
