Ann Li reached the next stage of the Morocco Open after defeating Maria Timofeeva 7-6 6-2 in the first-round. Li dug deep to win the tiebreak 8-6 but raced clear in the second as she continued her run at the tournament.
Her next opponent will be Hailey Baptiste. The American beat Camilla Rosatello in a close three set match, winning 7-6 3-6 6-2. Baptiste was very wasteful when it came to taking her chances on break points, converting just five of a possible 21 opportunities.
Despite 13 places lower in the world rankings at 70, Baptiste has double the amount of victories as Li on clay this season with eight victories. Her run from qualifying to the third-round in Rome highlighted just how much of a threat she can prove to be at times.
