Andrey Rublev defeated Lloyd Harris in four sets to reach the second-round. The Russian recovered from losing the second set to Harris to win 6-4 4-6 6-3 6-1. He was particularly effective on his backhand and made a number of winners from that side.
He has struggled for much of the clay court season but made the final of the Hamburg Open last week and will hope to continue the momentum with a deep run here, having reached the quarter-finals in 2020 and 2022.
He will face Adam Walton in round two after the Australian registered his first ever win at Grand Slam level. Walton defeated Maximilian Marterer in a topsy-turvy five set battle, winning 7-6 4-6 6-3 2-6 6-2.
Rublev should face no problems against such an inexperienced opponent in round two and we’re backing him to win in straight sets and make the third-round for the fourth successive year.
