Anastasia Zakharova vs Sorana Cirstea prediction

Anastasia Zakharova enters the main draw as a lucky loser following Zhu Lin's withdrawal from the tournament. She failed to make it out of qualifying after a defeat to Ella Seidel in three sets. This follows a second-round defeat to Laura Siegemund at the US Open. She is up to her highest ranking of 79 in the world and she does have a title win on the ITF Tour in Zaragova earlier this year.

She faces Sorana Cirstea in the first-round. The 35-year-old headed into the US Open in brilliant form after winning on the WTA Tour in Cleveland a week prior to the major. However, despite a comfortable first-round win, Cirstea could not go any further than round two after a tight three set loss to Karolina Muchova.

These two faced each other for the first time just last month, as Cirstea comfortably won 6-1 7-5 on her way to winning the title in Cleveland as a qualifier. Despite that setback at the US Open, the Romanian is still performing at a high level and possesses more than enough quality to win this round one clash.
