Anastasia Zakharova found form in March, as she won three matches in a row on the ITF circuit to reach the semi-finals in Austin, before a defeat to Lanlana Tararudee. She continued to pick up results in Miami as she won her two matches to qualify, going on to advance to the third-round, with her run coming to an end against Victoria Mboko.
Camila Osorio last competed in Bogota, losing in the second-round to Jazmin Ortenzi. She has already picked up a title earlier this season at the Philippines Open. The Colombian has also found a way of competing at WTA 1000 level, as she progressed to the third-round in Doha and Indian Wells. Osorio reached the third-round of this event three years ago.
Osorio will look to extend the rallies and force Zakharova into a number of errors on this slower surface, and she will need to defend points well if she is to win this first-round match in Madrid.
