Alycia Parks was defeated heavily in the first-round of the US Open last time out, losing 6-0 6-1 to Mirra Andreeva. Despite Andreeva being a very tough opponent, the lack of competitiveness from Parks was a surprise considering her fine run to the semi-finals of the Monterrey Open a week earlier, which included a superb win over Emma Navarro. That was her joint best result of the year.
Darja Vidmanova is her first-round opponent in Guadalajara. She qualified for the tournament with straight set victories against Emina Bektas and Ena Shibahara. The Croatian is up to her highest ranking of 161 in the world and has three ITF title wins this season. However, she failed to qualify for the US Open a fortnight ago, losing in the second qualifying stage.
Parks will hope to recapture her Monterrey form in this event, and she should get her campaign off to a win against Vidmanova.
