Aliona Bolsova vs Jaqueline Cristian prediction
Aliona Bolsova staged a big upset in the first-round as she came from a set down to defeat Katerina Siniakova 3-6 6-1 6-2 after two hours. That was her first tour-level win since Roland Garros in 2023 and her first victory over a top 70 player since a win against Alison Riske-Amritraj at the Italian Open in 2020. She will take a huge amount of confidence from that victory but now takes on Jaqueline Cristian.
Cristian beat Yelyzaveta Kotliar 6-3 6-1 in her first-round match. She made the most of the mistakes that were made by the 18-year-old Ukrainian, who was making her main draw debut, and was always in control of the encounter. She now has three wins from her last four matches after her run to the third-round in Rome and is finding form ahead of the French Open next week.
This will be their first encounter on the WTA Tour but they have already faced off in a W60 event two years ago on clay in Koper, with Bolsova winning comfortably. Cristian has improved as a player since then and we think she’ll pick up a victory of her own.
