Alexei Popyrin vs Daniil Medvedev prediction
Alexei Popyrin began his Italian Open campaign with a straight sets win over Carlos Taberner in the second-round. The Australian made a fast start to the match and managed to take the second set on a tiebreak to win 6-1 7-6. Popyrin hasn’t been at his best this season and lost early on last time out in Madrid, though he did make the quarter-finals of the Monte-Carlo Masters at the beginning of last month.
He takes on Daniil Medvedev in round three as the Russian comfortably defeated Cameron Norrie in straight sets. He extended his winning record to 4-0 against the Brit with a professional performance, winning 6-4 6-2.
Medvedev leads the head-to-head 3-1 but this will be their first match on clay. Popyrin did win their last encounter, beating the Russian in a close three set match in the second-round of the Paris Masters last year.
Neither player is at their best right now but Medvedev, who captured his only clay court title in Rome two years ago, should be able to make it through to the next round.
