Alexandre Muller struggled for form on clay until a third-round appearance at the Madrid Open which included a win against seeded Ugo Humbert. The Frenchman lost in the second-round of the Italian Open to Stefanos Tsitisipas but then picked up a big scalp in his most recent event in Hamburg. He defeated world number three Alexander Zverev in a thrilling three set match before going on to lose to Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-finals.
Jakub Mensik initially struggled making the transition to clay after picking up the biggest title of his young career so far at the Miami Open. He lost in the first-round of the BMW Open but then bounced back in Madrid as he made the quarter-finals, losing to Francisco Cerundolo despite going a set up. He has played just one event since in Rome, losing at the round-of-16 stage to Hubert Hurkacz.
This is not the easiest of matches for Mensik to begin his French Open campaign but as long as his customary big serve is firing, he should be making it through against Muller.
