Alexander Zverev did not lose serve as he safely booked his place into the second-round of the French Open with a comfortable 6-3 6-3 6-4 win over American teenager Learner Tien. The German has not been at his best this season since reaching the final of the Australian Open, but still picked up a title in his home country at the BMW Open on clay just a month ago as he searches for his elusive maiden major title.
Jesper de Jong will be his opponent in round two after the Dutchman came from two sets down to mount a thrilling fightback and defeat Francesco Passaro 3-6 6-7 6-4 7-6 6-1. He reaches the second-round for the second successive year and will hope to go one better this time around but he’ll have his work cut out against the world number three.
They’ve played once before, in Hamburg last year on clay, with Zverev easily defeating De Jong 6-2 6-2 in the first-round. We expect the German to pull of a similar result here and easily make it through to the third-round.
