Jannik Sinner’s bid for the Sunshine Double gathered pace with a thumping win over Frances Tiafoe.

The American has shown real signs of getting back to his best recently but he was soundly beaten 6-2 6-2 by the Italian.

The world number two will now tussle with Alexander Zverev for a 12th time for a place in the final after the German crushed Francisco Cerundolo 6-1 6-2. 

Jannik has won the last six encounters, including a 6-2 6-4 triumph in the last four in Indian Wells earlier this month. 

Sascha has won just one set in his last five showdowns with the second seed and none in their past three.

Indeed, Sinner holds all the aces unless Zverev comes up with a spectacularly different gameplan and that is unlikely with him determined to keep hugging the baseline against an opponent who will dominate such exchanges for large spells in a match.
