Alexander Zverev vs Alex de Minaur prediction
Alexander Zverev suffered a disappointing third-round loss at the US Open to Felix Auger-Aliassime as his wait for a maiden Grand Slam title continues. Zverev has not enjoyed a particularly strong season after making the Australian Open final in January, but he remains the world number three and the best of the rest after Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
His opponent on day two of the Laver Cup will be Alex de Minaur. The Australian missed out on a fabulous opportunity of making the semi-finals of a Grand Slam for the first time as he also lost out to Auger-Aliassime in New York, despite taking the first set. It was a poor display from De Minaur, who finished with a first serve percentage of just 47% and he will want to regroup quickly as he seeks to qualify for the World Tour Finals at the end of the season. His Washington Open title in late July stands as his highlight of the season.
Zverev leads the head-to-head 8-2 and 6-2 on hard courts. The German’s strong groundstrokes and aggressive play from the baseline has always caused De Minaur problems when they meet, and he’ll be expected to win another point for Team Europe.
