Alexander Shevchenko enters the main draw as a lucky loser. In qualifying, he defeated Shintaro Mochizuki, Mathys Erhard but then lost to Filip Misolic despite being the second seed. He reached the quarter-final of the Bordeaux Challenger in his other most recent event but Shevchenko has not managed to reach the last four of any event he’s competed in this year.
Dusan Lajovic lost in the first-round of the Geneva Open to Jacob Fearnley last time out. A week earlier, he had got through the qualifying rounds in Rome and beat Yoshihito Nishioka in the first-round. He then lost to eventual winner and four-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz. The Serbian, who once rose to 23 in the world and reached the fourth-round here 11 years ago, is now way outside the top 100 and has struggled for form this season, with his best finish being a semi-final in a Girona Challenger.
Neither player is in particularly fine form and there is no clear favourite. We predict that this one will go long.
