Alexander Shevchenko vs Alex Michelsen prediction

Alexander Shevchenko was forced to withdraw from his second-round match against Raphael Collignon at the Bordeaux Challenger last time out. He had lost the first set on a tiebreak and was 4-0 down in the second. It’s not been a strong clay court swing for Shevchenko, with his best result being a round-of-16 appearance at the Bucharest Open.

He faces Alex Michelsen in round one. His last event was in Geneva, as he reached the last eight before a three set defeat to compatriot Learner Tien. That was his best result on clay this season, as he lost in the first-round of the Italian Open and in a Challenger event at Aix-en-Provence as the top seed. Michelsen’s highlight of the year so far was a run to the semi-finals in Brisbane, but that was right at the start of January.

Michelsen is the favourite to win this one, but he is vulnerable on clay, and Shevchenko will be expected to make this a competitive first-round encounter.
