It had been a tough clay court campaign for Alex de Minaur, as he suffered early exits in Barcelona, Madrid and Rome, with his best result being a quarter-final appearance at the Monte-Carlo Masters. However, he did find form at Hamburg last week, as he was handed a tough draw but still managed to get past Francisco Cerundolo, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Luciano Darderi to reach his first tour-level semi-final since winning the Rotterdam Open in February. However, despite being a set and 3-0 up against Tommy Paul, he would go on to lose.
He takes on Toby Samuel in the first-round, with the Brit making his Grand Slam main draw debut after winning all three of his qualifying matches. Samuel has won two Challenger titles this season and has moved up to 159 in the world, his highest ever ranking.
De Minaur’s best result here is a sole quarter-final appearance two years ago, and he will hope to put in a much better showing than he did in 2025, as he lost to Alexander Bublik in the second-round after going two sets up.
