Alejandro Tabilo vs Alexei Popyrin prediction
Alejandro Tabilo picked up his first ever win at the French Open after defeating Arthur Cazaux in a topsy-turvy first-round clash. The Chilean won 5-7 6-3 6-2 1-6 6-3 on his return after missing the last six weeks or so with a wrist injury.
Alexei Popyrin will be his opponent in the next round. The Australian was two sets up when his opponent Yoshihito Nishioka retired from the match. He ends a run of five successive round one losses here and reaches the second-round for the first time since 2019.
There’s no clear favourite, as Tabilo struggled at times on his return but has still shown his clay court pedigree in the past with a run to the semi-finals of the Italian Open last year and a win against Novak Djokovic in Monte-Carlo earlier this season.
Nevertheless, Popyrin has two quarter-finals appearances on clay over the past six weeks, which leads us to think the match between the pair could go the distance.
