Ajla Tomljanovic vs Yuliia Starodubtseva prediction

Ajla Tomljanovic’s campaign at the Guadalajara Open was cut short in the first-round as she was forced to retire due to injury. She was 6-2 4-2 down to Victoria Rodriguez at the time. This follows an early loss at the US Open to Coco Gauff despite a battling performance, and a first-round exit at the Monterrey Open. The Australian has not enjoyed the season she would have hoped for and has a negative win-loss record this year overall.

Yulia Starodubtseva is her opponent in the first-round. The Ukrainian is also struggling for form as she is without a win in her last four matches. She has not competed since losing to Anna Blinkova in the first-round of the US Open in New York. Apart from a credible clay court season, which included a run to the third-round of the French Open and a round-of-16 finish in Madrid, it’s been a largely disappointing season for Starodubtseva. She has lost 13 of her 20 hard court matches in 2025.

Considering their respective poor campaigns, neither player can be viewed as a favourite and this could run into three sets.

Ajla Tomljanovic vs Yuliia Starodubtseva tip: Both players to win a set
