Ajla Tomljanovic reached her second semi-final of the season and her first on clay since 2019 as she beat Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-1 6-3. The Australian made a fast start and went an early break up in the second but was pegged back by the Spaniard. Tomljanovic raised her game again to make the semi-final here for a third time.
She now takes on a fellow Aussie in Maya Joint as the 19-year-old thrashed fourth seed Ann Li 6-2 6-1. She is into the first clay court semi of her career. There is just one place separating these two in the world rankings and intriguingly, they are already set to play again as they were drawn against each other in the first-round of the French Open.
Tomljanovic struggled for form prior to this event while Joint has steadily improved and is coming off the back of three comfortable straight set wins. She’s performing at a strong level and we predict her to win against Tomljanovic.
