AC Milan preview: Allegri's AC Milan
Massimiliano Allegri took charge of AC Milan over the summer, returning to the Rossoneri after leaving San Siro over a decade ago, and the expectation and plan from the club's hierarchy is to ensure Milan become a more serious team after a couple of years of making daft decisions, both on and off the field.
That intended resurgence started in the worst possible way as they suffered a defeat to newly-promoted Cremonese on the opening day of the campaign at home. They did then, though, put in an impressive and professional performance to ease past Lecce by two goals to nil at Stadio Comunale Via del Mare a couple of weeks ago, courtesy of goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic.
Bologna preview: Frustrated Bologna
Bologna have had a brilliant and yet frustrating few years, with incredible improvement and feats achieved by Thiago Motta then dismantled. Built back up by Vincenzo Italiano and then subsequently drifting again at the end of last season when it looked as though they could ensure UEFA Champions League qualification.
Bologna have started their campaign again in underwhelming fashion. They were beaten 1-0 by Roma on the opening day of the campaign, but did then rally themselves to edge past a strong Como side by a goal to nil, courtesy of a 59th minute winner scored by Riccardo Orsolini.
AC Milan team news: Key issues
Massimiliano Allegri has been trying to play with a back three shape, but the Rossoneri have some key doubts affecting tat, as both Pervis Estupinan and Rafael Leao are potentially unavailable.
Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Maignan; Tomori, Gabbia, Pavlovic; Musah, Modric, Fofana, Athekame; Loftus-Cheek, Saelemaekers; Santiago Gimenez
Unavailable: Jashari (Injured)
Questionable: Pervis Estupinan (Injured), Leao (Injured)
Bologna team news: A few issues
Bologna have a few issues to deal with for this weekend, such as Tommaso Pobega and Ciro Immobile, whilst Nicolo Casale, Erik Holm and Ibrahim Sulemana are all doubtful.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Skorupski; Zortea, Vitik, Heggem, Lykogiannis; Freuler, Moro; Orsolini, Fabbian, Cambiaghi; Castro
Unavailable: Pobega (Injured), Immobile (Injured)
Questionable: Casale (Injured), Holm (Injured), Sulemana (Injured)
AC Milan vs Bologna prediction
Bologna will head to San Siro with a plan to try and dictate the ball, and in typically Massimiliano Allegri fashion, Milan will be compact and perhaps be grateful for that because their own patterns of play are currently lacking a certain level of cohesion. That means that siding with Milan in a low-scoring encounter could well be a good value bet for this one, as the style and flow of the game may benefit the hosts, especially at San Siro.
