The prediction
The Western Bulldogs fresh off the bye in Round 12 take on the Hawthorn Hawks to commence Round 13 at Marvel Stadium on Thursday.
The Bulldogs most likely needed the bye after their bruising encounter with Geelong in Round 10 that left them licking their wounds after a 127-113 defeat in one of the matches of the season. Prior to that they had recorded big wins against the Bombers, Power, Giants and Saints sandwiched around a narrow defeat to the Gold Coast Suns. All told they have four of their past six matches and despite some irresistible form they still find themselves on the outside looking in at the Top Eight. With a superb percentage though a win this week against the Hawks can have them right back amongst the hopefuls.
The Hawks red-hot start to the season seems a distant memory now after three straight losses to the Suns, Lions and Magpies. Given that those teams sit first, second and fourth on the ladder it is hardly cause for concern however they do now find themselves in the logjam of teams in the middle part of the ladder with seven wins. A slip-up against the Bulldogs will make that position a little more treacherous. They also have the Crows next week so this difficult section of the schedule is starting to ask a few questions as to the authenticity of the Hawks premiership hopes for season 2025.
The Hawks have won three straight against the Bulldogs including the elimination final last year. We think this game could go either way but will lean towards the Bulldogs in a highly anticipated Thursday showdown.
